Our Process

01

Utility Bill Review

We analyze 12–24 months of utility bills to identify consumption patterns, demand spikes, and billing anomalies that indicate waste.

02

On-Site Inspection

Our auditor visits your property and systematically inspects all energy systems — HVAC, lighting, envelope, appliances, and electrical — using professional diagnostic tools.

03

Diagnostic Testing

We perform blower door testing, duct leakage testing, and thermal imaging to quantify air infiltration and identify hidden energy losses.

04

Analysis & Modeling

We model your property's energy performance and calculate the savings potential for each recommended improvement.

05

Audit Report Delivery

We deliver a written report with an executive summary, detailed findings, and a prioritized list of improvements ranked by payback period and ROI.

06

Implementation Support

EMP can implement any or all of the recommended improvements, or provide the report to your preferred contractors. We also identify all available utility rebates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an energy audit take?
A residential audit typically takes 2–3 hours on-site. A commercial audit varies by facility size — from half a day for a small office to multiple days for a large industrial facility.
What is the difference between a Level 1 and Level 2 audit?
A Level 1 audit is a walkthrough assessment identifying obvious opportunities. A Level 2 audit (what EMP performs) includes detailed measurements, diagnostic testing, and financial analysis for each recommendation. Level 2 is required for most utility incentive programs.
Will the audit pay for itself?
In most cases, yes — often many times over. The savings from implementing even a few recommendations typically exceed the audit cost within the first year. Many utility companies also offer rebates that partially or fully cover audit costs.
Do I need an audit before going solar?
It's not required, but it's highly recommended. An audit can identify efficiency improvements that reduce your energy load, which means you need a smaller (less expensive) solar system to offset your bill.
